Corporate culture is a financial control.
A company does not need to falsify every number to mislead itself—and everyone else. It only needs to make accurate numbers dangerous to say aloud.
At WeWork, belief replaced evidence. Loyalty replaced scrutiny. Doubt became betrayal. Bad news did not disappear.
It simply stopped moving upward.

WeWhistled is an inside account of WeWork before the mythology collapsed: the financial promises, the machinery of belief, and the retaliation that followed when Joanna Strange challenged both.
It is not merely the story of how WeWork failed.
It is the story of how failure became unsayable.
About the Author
Joanna Strange
Joanna Strange was WeWork’s first whistleblower.
In 2016, she gave Bloomberg internal financial forecasts showing that the company was missing its targets. WeWork fired her and sued her.
She later discussed the story in Bloomberg’s Foundering, Hulu’s WeWork documentary, HBO Max’s Generation Hustle, interviews, and public appearances.
She is now writing WeWhistled.
